Sin: The Bane Of Faith

by Pastor David Halford

A Writing Meant to Guide You in Understanding Christ's Prophecies

"Note: The Following Is The Opinion Of The Writer And Is Not Intended To Be A Replacement For The Reading And Study Of The Bible"

Genesis 4:3-8

3 So it came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the LORD of the fruit of the ground. 4 Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And the LORD had regard for Abel and for his offering; 5 but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry and his countenance fell. 6 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 "If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it." 8 Cain told Abel his brother. And it came about when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

There is not a soul on earth that has not sinned.  In fact, everybody sins every day; it is the nature of the flesh.  Just to be angry at someone, even if they really deserve it, is a sin.  When I get up in the morning and want to head out to find a sinner, I go look in the mirror and there he is.  Standing there staring back at me with this huge log in his eye.  I would suggest this form of sinner mending to everyone.

1 John 1:8-10

8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

Proverbs 20:9

9 Who can say, "I have cleansed my heart,

I am pure from my sin"?

Isaiah 64:6

6  For all of us have become like one who is unclean,

And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment;

And all of us wither like a leaf,

And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.

As you can see, the scripture paints man as a pretty ruthless race, but there is good news.

Habakkuk 2:4

 4"Behold, as for the proud one,

His soul is not right within him;

But the righteous will live by his faith.

Yes ladies and gentlemen, you can survive by faith.  Now does that mean you can run around like a bunch of wild animals?  I really don’t think so.  In fact, scripture really speaks against it.

Romans 6:1-7

1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; 7 for he who has died is freed from sin.

I hope you read this scripture.  There is a lot of meaning in it and it is very important you understand.  Sin will corrupt your soul and put a barrier between you and God.  Trust me; this can be a real problem.

Ephesians 4:30-32

30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, 1by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 32 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

James 4:4-6

4 You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: "He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us"? 6 But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, "GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE."

So you say, “Is this scripture calling me an adulteress?”  Yes, but not the way you may be thinking.  When you chase the ways of this world or the spirit of this world, God cannot abide in you.  Believe me; you want God to abide in you.  His presence (the Holy Spirit) shields you from the unclean spirits in this world.  If you are open to the spirits of this world, you won’t have to chase them, they will chase you.

2 Thessalonians 3:3

3 But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.

The best way to guard yourself from the evil in this world is by putting on the Full Armor Of God.  I have a separate study for this you can read by clicking this link (Spiritual Warfare).  It says all I could ever include with this study and more.

Finally, only you can decide what is right for you in this life.  The Bible is a good guideline, but for me to tell you how to live would be hypocritical.  A good rule of thumb is, if you have to ask if it’s a sin, it probably is.

I hope this has not upset anybody, but to write all about the Spirit and not about sin would be one-sided.

May you all find peace in your life,

Pastor David Halford
